Formula fields on SFDC Reports
Within Salesforce reporting, you have the option of creating custom formulas. This allows you to add, subtract, divide, and multiply currency and/or decimal fields to generate a numeric value.
Formulas are based on the summary (i.e. grouping) level:
How to Create a Formula Field
To create a formula, you will want to go into Reports and customize the formula:
- Go to Salesforce > "+" > Reports > select the report you would like to add the formula to > click "Customize"
- On the left task pane, you will see Formulas as the first option in the folders. This allows you to create the formula, like Quota Att and Total Payment. Double click on "Add Formula" to get started
- Once in the pop-up screen, start entering information in any fields marked with a red line:
- Custom Name: Name the custom field for recognition in the report.
- Description: Leave a description to describe what the custom formula is. This is optional.
- Format: The options are number, percent, and currency. This option defaults to number. The currency that shows is based on the sure that is logged in.
- Decimal Places: This allows the numeric number to go out to more than one decimal place. If you wanted to round the number, you have the ability to not go into decimals. Salesforce allows up to 18 decimal places to the right to be shown on a customer report formula.
- Where will this formula be displayed: You have the option of having it be summarized on the different levels. You can do it at the highest level, All Summary Levels, or at a grouping that you have in the report. Selecting each option will give a preview of what you will see on the report.
- Summary Fields: If you click on this drop-down menu, it provides you with all the currency and decimal fields that are available to use in the formula for the specific report.
- Operators: These are the operators to allow you to add, subtract, multiply, divide, exponential, and open/close parentheses. These operators can also be typed into the formula instead of being selected from the drop-down menu.
- Check Syntax: This button allows Salesforce to confirm if your formula is correctly formatted. It will provide you with an error if there are any (i.e. missing parenthesis).
-
Functions: First drop-down menu, All, Logical, Math, and Summary.
Additionally, Salesforce has an easy guide for the logical functions found here. This includes AND, BLANKVALUE, ABS, etc.
- Once the formula is completed, click Ok > Run Report to review the details. If the formula is as you expect you can click Save or Save As on the report.
