Rounding in a Payment Rule
Rounding is mainly intended for when companies are paying on integers vs. decimals and they don’t want to split an integer as it crosses tiers. In other words, if there is a situation where you have a deal splitting two tiers, and you want the entire deal amount to be paid at a higher or lower rate instead of being split up then you will want to use rounding. There are three types of rounding: Round Up, Round Down, and Half Up.
Rounding up or down is essentially like Apply the Highest Rate, but it is by the deal and it only happens once. Half Up is when you split tiers and is how the system is designed without having this turned on.
To make the change:
- Go to the payment rule > scroll down to section F, next to the "Attainment Tiers" header there is a cogwheel icon, click that icon
- Select Rounding On > Round-Up.
For example:
Attainment Tiers
$0.00 - $99.99: 3%
$100.00 - $149.99: 4%
$150.00 - MAX: 5%
Deal 1: $50
Deal 2: $60
Deal 3: $60
Deal 1 gets paid out 3% on the $50. Deal 2 total with Deal 1 is $110, so $50 gets paid at 3% and $10 gets paid at 4%. Deal 3 total with Deal 1 and 2 is $170, so $40 gets paid at 4% and $20 gets paid at 5%. This is “Half Up”.
To Round-Up, you would have Deal 2 have the full $60 paid at 4%.
To Round Down, you would have the full amount of $60 for Deal 2 be paid at 3%.
Additionally, The system is not designed to round up the attainment amount. For example, the system - even with rounding - cannot round the attainment amount from 96.6% to 97%.
